General course information

This course is divided into a total of three units, 1 AS unit and 2 A2 units, which contribute to the overall grade. It is a natural progression from GCSE, building on previous experiences while providing greater challenge. It offers students opportunities to develop understanding, knowledge and skills and the opportunity to explore and analyse the work of others. All students are encouraged to explore and experiment with different media and processes.

1 - Personal Creative Enquiry

 

An extended, exploratory project/portfolio and outcome/s based on themes and subject matter which are personal to each student.

It begins with a structured foundation course that will give students the skills, knowledge and understanding to develop a personal response to their chosen subject matter.

Internally assessed and externally moderated.

A2 / A Level

2 – Personal Investigation

 

This is an in-depth, practical, critical and theoretical investigative project/theme-based portfolio and outcome/s with integrated extended written critical and contextual analysis.

Internally assessed and externally moderated.

A2 / A Level

3 – Externally Set Assignment

Students independently develop a personal response to a stimuli set by WJEC within specified time constraints – a set preparatory time and a 15 hour examination.

Internally assessed and externally moderated.

 

 Career Prospects

There are many careers available to students who complete this course such as architect, artist, illustrator, textile/fashion designer, 3D product designer, photographer, landscape designer, graphic designer, fine artist, ceramicist, picture editor, computer graphic/game design, cartoonist, animator, interior designer, set designer, web designer, advertising, publishing, marketing, media, museum or gallery work to name but a few.

Ideal Entry requirements

A good GCSE grade is highly beneficial, but we also accept students on the strength of their ability to demonstrate an interest in Art & Design and motivation to develop skills.
