Welsh (1st and 2nd Language)

course information

There are two independent qualifications for candidates, namely Welsh and Welsh Literature. The qualification ‘Welsh’ is used as evidence of literacy skills in a candidate.

Every candidate will:-

i. undertake a non-examination Oral assessment ( Individual and Group)  30%

ii. sit two exams of written papers  70%

Assessment will be non-tier i.e. all units will allow candidates to have entry to the full range of grades A* -G.

Candidates will study the following aspects of Welsh Literature:

  • Poetry

  • Prose

  • Drama

  • Visual Literature

Welsh Second Language

The exam is based on: Oral, Reading and Writing elements.  All candidates will study the following units:

Units 1 and 2 are oracy response questions where pupils work in groups. These units count for 50% of the final grade.

Units 3 and 4 are written examinations based on reading and writing tasks. These count for 50% of the final grade.
